No Status, No School: Palestinian children in Egypt

A recent article in New Internationalist examines the significant barriers Palestinian children from Gaza face in accessing education after arriving in Egypt. Without recognized residency or documentation, many children are unable to enrol in formal schools, while financial pressures, disrupted education, and the effects of conflict create further obstacles.

The article highlights the experience of children and families navigating these challenges, as well as the organizations working to provide alternative pathways to learning and support. Among them is Zimam, a Palestinian initiative working in partnership with Rise Alliance for Children to support children in Cairo.

Through its centre, Zimam provides educational and psychosocial support to children who have experienced displacement and profound trauma. Its work demonstrates the vital role that community-based initiatives can play when formal education systems are unable to meet the needs of children affected by conflict.
